The Gotive H41 wireless communicator for
vertical markets was awarded the 2003 National Prize for Design
in the category: Industrial Design - Original design of new products
designed and produced in Slovakia. The prize was collected by two
chief designers, Ivan Gavenda and Peter Olah, as well as by Gotive
as the company producing the handheld communicator.
When
we started with the design, most of the available devices in the
world offered only a processor with some simple accessory for data
capture, for example a bar code reader. When it was required to
work on-line, these devices were connected to the system via mobile
phone or modem and classical networks. The keynote of our design
and development was to optimise the system by accommodating all
functions into one device. So we put together hardware, software
and mechanics with an attractive design. Our idea was also, that
the devices should not only be functional, but they should look
good as well… and this included not only the device, but also
its overall presentation, our web site, promotional items etc.,“
says Gavenda, who works as Gotive Chief Designer and who coordinated
the works between the external designer Peter Olah and the development
team at Gotive. “When working, it is
very important for me to bring into accord inspiration, art and
technical requirements, requirements on ergonomy, etc. This complex
approach is what I see as the fascination of the industrial design”
adds Olah.
Anna Rosivalova, Gotive PR Manager adds: “The
idea and design of our H41 product - be it its functional or visual
aspect – represents the crucial point of our marketing and
sales. People generally like to possess striking and unique looking
things, and more specifically with our product, they appreciate
its looks, its ergonomy, and its ruggedness. They also like to have
the final word regarding their hardware configuration or the colour
of the handheld. We believe that in our case we succeeded in making
the right design at the beginning. We are getting a very positive
response to the Gotive H41 Series.”
| „Additional motivating
factors for us to have selected the Gotive are that it offers
a better screen size, colour display and is very robust compared
to similar, competitive models“. Hansie du Plessis,
iGrade |
“The design of this
new CE.NET device is very unigue”.
